As the days shrink and the temperature outside begins to cool, summer may seem like a distant hope. But it will come as it always does and catch you off guard. If you start now, we can remove unwanted body hair with laser hair removal to start your summer right with fresh, smooth skin.

Here at McHugh Plastic Surgery, we offer a number of services to our clients in The Woodlands, Texas, that are designed to help give them the confidence they need to show off their bodies. From tummy tucks to breast augmentation, we can help bring your body to a place (and a shape) where you’re happy. If unwanted body hair figures among your list of “don’t want’s,” we can help with our laser hair removal system.

And if you get started in the winter, you’ll greet the summer without unwanted body hair.

How laser hair removal works

While laser technology isn’t necessarily new, refinements in the technology have opened an entirely new world of applications because of our ability to control the depth, size, and power of the energy we deliver. This is especially helpful in laser hair removal since we’re aiming at very small targets — your hair follicles.

Using our laser system, we direct intense pulses of light energy directly into your hair follicles. The light energy is absorbed by the pigment in your follicles, which heats up and destroys the “root” of your hair. Once your hair falls out, the follicle simply withers away and is flushed out through your lymphatic system.

Because our laser system is so targeted, the energy only goes to where we direct it, which means that we can remove unwanted body hair without causing any unnecessary damage to surrounding tissue, leaving your skin in great shape.

The hair where?

Our laser hair removal system is effective on most areas of your body, including your:

Indeed, the only place we do not use the laser system is near your eyes.

The road to less hair

When you come in for your consultation, we sit down with you to review the areas where you want less hair. Depending upon the size of this area, we usually recommend 3-7 treatments to get you the results you want. We space these treatments out by several weeks to allow time for untreated hairs to grow in, allowing us to tackle them during subsequent visits.

Your hair is generally in one of two stages: a growing stage or a rest stage. This means that not all of your hair is visible at once. By spacing your treatments out, we can address those hairs as they “wake up” and make an appearance.

The time it takes for each treatment depends on the size of the treatment area. For larger areas, count an hour, but smaller areas, such as under your arms, may take just minutes for each session. No matter the session’s length, there’s no downtime afterward, which means you’re free to get on with your day.

Prep work

There’s little you need to do to prepare for laser hair removal, other than stay out of the sun and avoid any procedure that rips the hair out at its roots. This means that shaving is OK since it only breaks the hair at its shaft, but try and steer clear of waxing and plucking.

You should also stay out of the sun, because it’s easier for us to identify and target your hair follicles if they’re against a lighter background.

If you get started now on your road to smooth skin, we can deliver hair-free surfaces just in time for summer.
