Dysport® and Dermal Fillers: A Powerful Combination

Dysport® and Dermal Fillers: A Powerful Combination

It can be frustrating to look in the mirror and see that youthful version of yourself slowly disappear behind wrinkles and sagging skin. As you contemplate your next steps, you don’t feel ready for a facelift quite yet, but the idea that a few injections can dial back the years piques your interest.

Well, millions of Americans have acted on that interest, with 17 million cosmetic injectable treatments performed in the United States in 2023 alone.

As our name suggests, Dr. Thomas McHugh specializes in surgical cosmetic solutions here at McHugh Plastic Surgery, but we also understand this approach isn’t for everyone. That’s why we also offer a range of minimally invasive procedures, such as cosmetic injectables like Dysport®, Botox®, and dermal fillers.

Here’s what you should know about each option, and how we can use injectables together to hit the reset button on your aging skin.

Relax lines and soften signs of aging with Dysport and Botox

Let’s first look at what we can accomplish with Dysport and Botox, which are classified as neurotoxins or neuromodulators.

These cosmetic injectables temporarily paralyze the muscles that contract to form those dynamic wrinkles around the top half of your face, such as:

These lines used to come and go, but these days, they’ve become etched into your skin, where they can both age you and give you that seemingly permanent “angry” look. But with just a few injections of Dysport or Botox, we can relax and smooth out these fine lines and wrinkles, creating a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Botox has also been approved by the FDA to relax those ropey, vertical cords on your neck that come with aging. Called platysma bands, we can make them fade back into your neck with just a few injections.

Restore volume with dermal fillers

At our practice, we offer two leading brands of fillers — Restylane® and Juvéderm® — and both contain hyaluronic acid (HA) as their active ingredient. HA is a naturally occurring substance in your body that has the amazing ability to retain moisture. A quarter teaspoon of HA can hold a gallon and a half of water!

With dermal fillers, we can use HA fillers to achieve a wide range of goals, including:

We can also use dermal fillers to make your hands look more youthful.

Combine cosmetic injectables for a “liquid facelift”

Our clients love cosmetic injectables for many reasons, with versatility and ease of use topping most lists.

When we combine neuromodulators with dermal fillers, we can give you a “liquid facelift.” The procedure is quick enough to do on your lunch break and requires almost no downtime. And, results are fast: Dermal fillers offer immediate results, while Dysport and Botox results occur within a week.

As for how long these results last, you can count on about 3-4 months with neuromodulators and up to a year or more with dermal fillers. And, when results start to fade, you simply return for another quick round of injections.
