There's a Good Reason (Well, Many) Why Eyelid Surgery Ranks Among the Top Surgical Procedures
When it comes to plastic surgery in the United States, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) perennially ranks among the top five, most recently occupying the No. 4 spot in 2018. One of the reasons for this popularity is that this relatively simple procedure can make an enormous difference in your appearance, refocusing the attention on your eyes.
At McHugh Plastic Surgery, Dr. Thomas McHugh offers every plastic surgery procedure on the top-10 list, from breast augmentation to tummy tucks. As part of his wide range of services, Dr. McHugh provide eye-opening blepharoplasties to patients living in and around The Woodlands, Texas, helping them see and be seen.
Here’s a look at the many reasons why eyelid surgery continually ranks among the top surgical procedures.
Better communicate with the world
There are dozens of expressions about your eyes and what they communicate, but the bottom line is that they do communicate. Your eyes often speak volumes, long before you open your mouth, and you want your message to be one of energy, vitality, and alertness.
Drooping eyelids, on the other hand, often lead to questions like, “Hard night?” or “Looks like you didn’t get enough sleep.” And this can be, understandably, frustrating. Drooping eyelids give off a first impression that you may be tired, bored, or disengaged, despite feeling otherwise. Through eyelid surgery, we can let the world in and show them that you’re energetic and interested in what goes on around you.
See the world
If you already have genetically puffy eyelids, the sensitive skin in these areas is often the first to succumb to age, losing its elasticity and tone. And in severe cases, the skin may fold down into your line of vision, preventing you from seeing clearly. Through eyelid surgery, we can remove this excess skin, clearing your view.
As surgeries go, eyelid surgery is easy
Another reason why eyelid surgery is so popular is that the procedure is relatively easy. Dr. McHugh performs your blepharoplasty on an outpatient basis, and he uses general anesthesia for your comfort.
During the procedure, he makes an incision in the natural crease in your upper eyelid and removes the excess tissue. Dr. McHugh may also remove any deposits of fat he finds and rearrange your muscles to better hold your tissue.
If he’s also tackling your lower lids, he will make an incision along your lash line and remove any excess tissue and fat.
Once he’s done, he closes the incisions and waits for any anesthesia to wear off before sending you home. You should plan on taking it easy for a few days. You’ll need to keep your head elevated and follow the post-op instructions he gives you. Y
