Position, Shape, and Symmetry: Reclaim Your Physique With a Breast Lift

Position, Shape, and Symmetry: Reclaim Your Physique With a Breast Lift

Perhaps you’ve been through a few pregnancies that have changed the position, shape, and size of your breasts. Or, maybe age has taken its toll, and your breasts are sagging more with each passing year. Either way, you’d like to hit the rewind button.

Well, that’s exactly what a breast lift can accomplish, which explains why it ranks number four in plastic surgery procedures in the United States, with more than 153,000 in 2024 alone.

As a leading expert in breast surgeries, McHugh Plastic Surgery’s own Dr. Thomas McHugh has extensive experience helping women reclaim their physiques, and the breast lift plays an important role in these efforts. Let’s take a look.

Why so many women opt for breast lifts

We’ve covered some ground on the primary reasons why so many women choose to have a breast lift, but we want to provide more detail.

First, pregnancy can drastically change the size and shape of your breasts, to say nothing of breastfeeding afterward. While some women’s breasts bounce back, many are left with permanent changes, such as breasts that sag more or appear less full and more hollowed out.

Weight fluctuations can also wreak havoc on your breasts, robbing them of their former shape.

Lastly, whether or not you have kids, your breasts will still be affected by aging. As you get older, you might notice the loss of elasticity and tone in your skin. That same process is also happening below the surface, where your connective tissues are losing strength.

So, between weakened tissue support and aging skin, your breasts can take on entirely different shapes and positions over time.

All that a breast lift can accomplish

Now, let’s look at how we can get you back to an outer shape and profile that better suits your vital inner spirit.

As the name suggests, during a breast lift, Dr. McHugh repositions your breasts higher up on your chest. As he does this, he removes excess skin and tightens existing tissue to make perkier breasts with better support. He can also reshape your breasts to some extent, but please note that a breast lift won’t augment their size; a breast augmentation does that.

Another goal that Dr. McHugh can achieve during breast lift surgery is to shrink down enlarged areolas. This is a common side effect of many of the issues we describe above. Since breast lift surgeries are done using incisions around the areolas, reshaping them is a common request.

Getting to your breast lift results

Dr. McHugh typically performs the breast lift procedure on an outpatient basis, which means you can go home to recover. We do use general anesthesia, so you need someone to drive you.

At home, we’ll provide you with complete aftercare instruction and support garments. You should plan on taking it easy for a few days.

The good news is that your results are immediate. You do need to wait a bit for swelling to go down and for your incision to fade away, but the new shape and position of your breasts is in place for you to enjoy.
