My Chest Is Getting Wrinkly. What Can I Do About It?

My Chest Is Getting Wrinkly. What Can I Do About It?

You find yourself loving the colder months because you can wear turtlenecks and other clothes that hide your increasingly wrinkled chest. Well, spring and summer are around the corner, and we can help restore your chest to one you’ll be proud to show off.

Aging leaves no stone unturned, and this very much includes your chest. To fight back, the team here at McHugh Plastic Surgery, led by Dr. Thomas McHugh, offers both surgical and technological solutions. When it comes to a wrinkly chest, our innovative laser technology is the perfect solution.

Aging and your chest

Did you know that the sun is responsible for about 90% of the visible signs of aging in your skin? Now consider how exposed your chest is to sunlight, and it makes sense that this is an area of your skin that ages sooner and faster than others.

By aging, we’re referring to several different issues, including:

When all of these converge, your chest can become a mottled, less-than-smooth area that can prematurely age you.

Giving your chest a new surface

Thanks to refinements in laser technologies, we can accomplish a great deal, including dialing back the signs of aging on your chest.

For this area, we turn to DeepFX® and ActiveFX® fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. With this approach, we deliver beams of laser light energy into your skin to break up the surface area, called the epidermis. In effect, we’re clearing away the outer layers of your skin to make room for healthier new skin cells to come in.

When we resurface your chest area, we can also clear those areas of discoloration (sun spots) that can really pile up.

In addition to resurfacing the outermost layer of skin on your chest, the laser energy also creates a call for new collagen production, which lifts and tightens the deeper layers of your dermis.

As you can see, with laser skin resurfacing, we can not only clear away surface blemishes, we can smooth away wrinkles and that crepey look that your chest can develop.

What to expect during your laser resurfacing treatment

When you come in, we make you comfortable and apply a topical anesthetic to your chest. Once you’re ready, we deliver the laser energy. You may feel some warmth in your skin, but you shouldn't feel any pain.

After your treatment, which takes an hour or two, you may experience some redness, tenderness, and swelling in your chest. Rest assured, we’ll give you full skin care instructions so that the area heals quickly.

As the skin remodels itself and new collagen comes in, you’ll realize results in a few weeks that you’ll be more than ready to show off. We do urge you to guard these results by being extra vigilant about protecting your chest against the sun with sunscreen.

If you want to hit the reset button on your chest, please contact our office in The Woodlands, Texas, to schedule your laser skin resurfacing.
