Can Laser Therapy Get Rid of Cellulite?
The past two decades have been nothing short of amazing when it comes to aesthetic possibilities. From cosmetic injectables to laser technologies that tackle everything from sagging skin to tattoo removal, there’s little we can’t easily accomplish.
And we can certainly add cellulite to the long list of conditions that laser therapy can tackle, which is good news for the millions of people (mostly women) who have this common skin condition.
As our name suggests, we offer comprehensive plastic surgery services here at McHugh Plastic Surgery, but we don’t stop there. Recognizing the importance of emerging nonsurgical treatments, Dr. Thomas McHugh has added an extensive suite of laser treatments to our offerings, including one that’s dedicated to cellulite.
It’s called Cellulaze®, and here’s a look at how we can use it to get rid of those cellulite lumps and bumps and smooth out your skin again.
Behind those lumps and bumps
We mentioned that cellulite affects millions of people, and this is no exaggeration. To put some numbers to it, about 80% to 90% of women have cellulite, as well as up to 10% of men.
The reason for the huge disparity between genders is likely due to a few factors. First, the fibrous bands that hold the surface of the skin to deeper layers are patterned differently between men and women. In men, these fibrous bands run in criss-cross patterns that hold the fat down more effectively. In women, the bands are parallel.
Researchers also believe that estrogen hormones in women can also contribute to cellulite.
No matter how the problem arose, the good news is that we have a solution for cellulite in Cellulaze.
A multi-targeted approach for cellulite
The primary reason we chose Cellulaze is that this laser technology delivers a unique three-way approach to reducing cellulite:
1. Targeting fat
The first step in getting rid of cellulite is to target the fat. With Cellulaze, downward-facing beams coagulate your fat, making it less lumpy.
2. Releasing the bands
Since fibrous bands are creating the puckering effect in your skin, we tackle these, too. With Cellulaze, we deliver sideways facing beams that release the bands so that your skin isn’t held down.
3. Retightening with collagen
The final step is the icing on the cake — we call on new collagen to tighten your skin. To do this, Cellulaze delivers upward facing beams that create enough thermal energy to spur a collagen response in your skin.
By approaching your cellulite from every angle with Cellulaze, we can deliver excellent results.
One and done
As if the technology weren’t great enough, another benefit of Cellulaze is that it usually only takes one treatment to smooth out cellulite.
Depending on the size of your treatment area, it typically takes us about an hour or two. During your Cellulaze treatment, we thread a laser fiber under the surface of your skin and deliver the energy.
As for results, they typically last up to one year, or more. If your cellulite returns, you can return for another quick-and-easy Cellulaze treatment.
