Vaginal rejuvenation, also called labiaplasty, is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of your labia, enhancing their appearance and improving symmetry. Beyond cosmetic reasons, some women opt for labiaplasty due to pain during intercourse from twisting and tugging on the labia.
When Dr. McHugh performs a labiaplasty, he administers anesthesia first. He then removes any excess skin from the labia minora, or inner lips of the vulva. In most cases, he shortens your inner labia so that they don’t hang below your outer lips, called the labia majora.
If one labia is longer than the other, he trims them to ensure symmetry. Once enough tissue has been removed, Dr. McHugh sews the incisions.
In most cases, Dr. McHugh recommends patients take a week off of work following their labiaplasty. After surgery, you may experience swelling and pain, which you can reduce with ice or cold compresses.
After 4-6 weeks, you can resume using tampons and having intercourse. While most swelling disappears within this period, some slight swelling may remain for up to six months.
If uneven or long inner labia keep you from enjoying intercourse or intimacy, it’s time to find a solution. Contact McHugh Plastic Surgery today to learn more about vaginal rejuvenation and what it can do for your confidence. Call now to schedule your appointment or book it quickly online.
