Breast Lift Q & A

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, also called mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that lifts your breasts, giving them a perky, youthful look and firmness.

As you age, the skin on your breasts becomes weak and begins to sag. Things like pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight gain can cause sagging, as does the normal decrease in collagen production caused by aging.

During a mastopexy, Dr. McHugh raises the breast, tightening the surrounding tissue and removing any excess skin, improving its placement and contour.

Who Should Have a Breast Lift?

Breast lifts are appropriate for any woman with fully developed breasts. Although it's achievable, Dr. McHugh doesn’t recommend breast lifts to those who may become pregnant or breastfeed in the future, as it can lead to unpredictable results in the breasts’ shape and size.

Ideal mastopexy candidates are happy with the size of their breast and are looking to restore their fullness and placement.

During an initial consultation, Dr. McHugh examines your breasts and discusses your goals and expectations. He discusses multiple variables that can impact the success of your breast lift, including:

  • Your age
  • Breast shape
  • Breast size
  • Skin condition
  • Nipple relocation
  • Breast position

In some cases, Dr. McHugh may suggest a breast lift paired with a breast augmentation, enhancing your natural size and shape.

What is Breast Revision Surgery?

Breast revision surgery occurs when there’s an underlying issue with a previous breast augmentation surgery. Although other problems can occur, some of the most common reasons patients seek out Dr. McHugh for breast revision surgery include:

  • Implant displacement
  • Repeated capsular contracture
  • Switch to silicone implants
  • Change breast size
  • Breast implant rupture or deflation

If you’ve had a previous breast augmentation and have painful, hard, or distorted breasts, you may have capsular contracture, a standard implant complication. Dr. McHugh may recommend SERIⓇ surgical scaffold to prevent further issues.

If you’re considering a breast lift or you’re having problems with a previous breast augmentation, contact McHugh Plastic Surgery. Call to schedule your appointment with Dr. McHugh or book it quickly online.
